How can artistic autonomy be safeguarded? In what ways do multiple embodied identities impact the recognition and visibility of artists? How do artists navigate the liminal space between disciplines? As an organization operating at the nexus of artist studios, art institutions and notions of care, we recognize the pressing need for reflection on the diverse working modalities within the artistic domain and how they impact artistic practice and the relations it generates.

We invite you to the first edition of MOUSSEM STAGES, a series of performances, talks, gatherings and presentations centred on both themes that emerge from the works of artists and Moussem’s distinct organizational context and work methods. During two weeks in October, we will discuss the diverse aspects of artistic labour while capturing its different stages, from invisibility to exposure and from process to representation. MOUSSEM STAGES marks a new phase in our organization, linked to our new location in the heart of Anderlecht, as we open up towards the neighbourhood to explore multiple ways through which collaborations and encounters can be nurtured and experienced.

MOUSSEM STAGES serves as a collaborative platform, sharing the processes fostered within the Moussem residency programmes with the public. This annual event takes the shape of an interdisciplinary and discursive gathering, co-hosted by Moussem’s partner venues.
