Radouan Mriziga

Moussem Nomadic Arts Center has developed a very active residence programme in recent years. In this way we support the incipient work of international performers, choreographers and writers whose art practice is in full development. For artists lacking the necessary infrastructure and technical possibilities in their own country, a residence often proves to be of pivotal importance in their creation process. For Moussem, this is a way to support international and local talent that is connected to the Arab world. Aside from providing the necessary logistic and financial frameworks, we give our residents an opportunity to get acquainted with local colleagues and audiences. Together, the Moussem residencies aim to function as a hub for creativity and critical awareness and a stimulus for actual exchange. These collaborations between the Nomadic Arts Center and the artists often develop into lasting artistic relationships.

Redouan Mriziga graduated from P.A.R.T.S. in 2012. Last season he worked on the presentation Half Elf Zomeravond which Bart Meuleman realised at the Toneelhuis. Redouan is presently rehearsing the production Re: Zeitung, a project initiated by the P.A.R.T.S. Foundation together with La Monnaie, in which young professional dancers, the new generation of talent, adapt and rework the repertoire of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker.

With On, Redouan will be realising his first own creation. Moussem Nomadic Arts Center supports the young maker in the development of this process. One of the starting points that underlie this work is the question of how we are affected by the massive flow of images we ingest constantly. These images not only define us, they also shape our way of seeing. But is what we think we see always real? In On, the maker sets out to manipulate the perspective and expectations of the viewer. Using various elements such as video, motion and geometric patterns as a basis for his creation, the performer moves within, and relates to, the complexity of these three different dynamics while also raising questions about the functionality of the body.

Redouan Mriziga presents the results of this first research period in TAKEOVER, on Friday, November 8, 2013 in CC Berchem.
