Yara Boustany (b. 1990, she/her) is a Lebanese multidisciplinary artist, choreographer, performer, and artistic researcher born in Ghbeleh, Lebanon. Her work spans choreography, visual art, and performance, exploring sensorial stimuli that guide humans toward unexplored dimensions of existence—seeking states of enchantment and disturbance.
Her creative process draws on imagination and improvisation, unlocking the infinite potential of the body and voice beyond conventional constraints. She is the founder and artistic director of Amalgam Studio Beirut, one of the few remaining independent performing arts spaces in the city, dedicated to alternative artistic practices and collective creation.
This residency marks the first collaborative research phase of Yara’s new piece, mātri-phagìa. It includes her initial artistic exploration with sound designer Jad Atoui, focusing on the development of the work’s sonic and performative language. The residency also constitutes the first encounter and collaborative research with one of the performers of the piece, Nancy Nasr El Deen, laying grounds for embodied exchange and the exploration of the choreography beyond Yara’s own body.
